Your first visit to Blue Rock Center
Health History & Consultation
The first step for a new patient at Blue Rock Center is to fill out a complete health history. Old injuries, chronic problems, along with present symptoms are recorded. After reviewing your health history, Dr. Lowenstein will meet with you to determine how you may be helped utilizing various treatment options.
The Examination
A complete spinal palpation, thermography, postural and spinal range of motion examination with necessary orthopedic and neurological tests performed prior to Chiropractic spinal adjustments. Acupuncture and Shiatsu examination treatment using traditional established Oriental Medical methods to include pulse and tongue diagnosis. Dr Lowenstein will discuss what x-rays, if any, he feels are necessary for your individual case. The initial required physical examination determines diagnosis, according to established standards of care, prior to any treatment.
Report of Findings
After the health history, examination results have been studied; Dr Lowenstein will meet with you to explain the results of your exam findings. If the examination findings indicate a need for care, the recommended course of treatment will be fully explained and a consent to treat will be reviewed with various treatment options and potential problems discussed. If in the event your condition requires, a referral will be made to the appropriate health care professional.
Correction and Treatment
The spinal adjustment is administered manually, reducing the spinal misalignment or subluxation, by Dr Lowenstein utilizing the Gonstead or Diversified Method. The treatment goal is to restore motion, reducing vertebral subluxations by manual adjustment and/or rebalancing of the Energetic Meridian systems utilizing Acupuncture ( traditional sterile disposable acupuncture needles or electro-acupuncture) or Shiatsu methods. Other Physiotherapy treatments may include Ultrasound, Electric Muscle Stimulation, Gua Sha or PNF muscle rehabilitation.
This begins the natural process by which interference to health is removed, normal function is restored, and the body returns to health naturally through its own innate recuperative healing abilities. This is a "Wellness Paradigm" followed by Holistic Healthcare Practitioners with many patients reporting relief of symptoms beginning with their first treatment.
Re-Exam
Periodically a re-examination is performed to ascertain the progress that has been made and to make any necessary changes in your treatment.

What's the difference between massage therapy and shiatsu therapy?
Massage therapy often refers to Swedish massage, when a therapist rubs and kneads the body using oils or creams. Shiatsu therapy uses finger pressure and energy work to restore a balance of chi energy. The Shiatsu patient remains clothed during treatment. Passive manipulations of the extremities may be used, such as shoulder rotations, and hip joint stretches. Rotations and stretches help flexibility and blockages of chi.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare:
"Shiatsu therapy is a form of manipulation administered by the thumbs, fingers, and palms, without the use of any instrument, mechanical or otherwise, to apply pressure to the human skin, correct internal malfunctioning, promote and maintain health, and treat specific disease."
What's the difference between Acupuncture and Shiatsu therapy?
Although acupuncture and shiatsu share principals of treatment and theory, they differ in process. In acupuncture, very fine needles are inserted or mild electrical current is applied into meridian points. With Shiatsu therapy, pressure is applied manually on meridian points.
